DC Heroes Role Playing Game

So I recently relocated some of my books and notes from the various role playing games I was into when I was younger. I haven't played in a long time, but for a few years my friends and I got together every weekend to play something...mostly Dungeons & Dragons, but the DC Heroes RPG from Mayfair Games made it into the mix too...I even got to be the game master for it! I ran a fun campaign (if I do say so myself) that involved a misunderstood character I created being hunted by heroes and police that my players had to track down, assist, and clear his name. One of my friends has said it was one of his favorites...that meant a lot to me.

Anyway, I thought these 2 cards would be fun to share...Blue Beetle and his Watchmen analog Nite Owl. I love that one of Ted's drawbacks is a "minor irrational attraction to women", lol

If you ever played this game, please comment, share your thoughts and memories!

  1. This was one of my favorite RPG. I played and GMed. My favorite was a nightwing with heat vision and you know I can't remember his name. I played that char more then any other. I even teamed up with batman for awhile when robin was with the Titans. It was good times.

  2. DC Heroes 2nd edition is an all-time classic, among the most elegant games ever designed. Love it. So easy to learn, play, and run. Action resolution with one roll of the dice, somewhat borrowed from the James Bond 007 game Greg Gorden also worked one.

Personally I felt the ability scores assigned to DC charactes were vastly overblown. Ted Kord is certainly agile, but 64 times as agile as an average adult? I really doubt it. (Remember, an ordinary person has a score of 2 and each point higher is twice as good, i.e., 3 is double the ability of 2 and 4 is double the ability of 3.) Most of the Watchmen had more reasonable scores. Luckily it's simple to fix this inflation just by lowering the more ridiculous scores.

Thanks for reminding me of this great game. I think I may try to get a group together to play it!

    1. I have 49 mint cards on ebay for sale right now. I think there was 60 in a set but I collected cards and picked these up from a guy back in the day. They've been in top loaders ever since.

  3. Glad you both liked the post! If you liked the DC Heroes game, check out this podcast... http://fireandwaterpodcast.blogspot.com/

Specifically their latest episode, 9/8/13 DC RPG: THE HERO POINTS PODCAST, Episode 1. It was a lot of fun! (and part of the reason I ran this post when I did)

  4. I own a number DC Heroes items 1st-2nd ed boxes (1e is missing the poster map, but otherwise complete) a second 1e GM screen, the Batman Rpg, the 1st ed Batman Sourcebook, one of the Who's Who's (I have it in a binder for ease of use) the WWII sourcebook, the Atlas of the DCU, Hardeare Handbook, and a bunch of modules.

As of this time, I have not run or played it, though I want to. After hearing about a G+ mini campaign for MSH where small groups of heroes went on strategic missions to stop supervillains, I thought that would be a great idea for DC Heroes. The only drawback is that most of the villains I found in 1e that would work for such a scenario were mainly Superman villains, though I could probably do some research and find some more, however I would have to make new cards for those villains.

  5. Hi there! I'm thinking of searching up some of these old cards (don't have any at the moment...only own the Batman version of the RPG) and am wondering...what size are they? Are they standard 2.5x3.5?

    1. I don't have the cards handy at the moment (they're in storage) but I did have a few of them in card protectors which means they're standard 2.5x3.5 or very close to it!
